Some families come together in the most beautifully unexpected ways. This family is one of them.
When they first reached out to book a Baby’s First Year package in Raleigh, they were preparing to welcome surrogate twin girls into their home. They also had a 10-month-old daughter, adopted earlier that year, who was about to step fully into her role as the sweetest big sister. Three little girls. One family. And a whole lot of love to document.
I knew from our very first conversation that this was going to be a series of sessions I would never forget.
We started with an in-home lifestyle newborn session shortly after the twins arrived. The light in their home was soft and warm, and the mood in that house was pure joy. There was so much tenderness in the way everyone moved around those tiny babies.
And then there was big sister.
She was 10 months old herself, barely out of her own newborn stage in the grand scheme of things, and yet she was already so aware of her twin sisters. She was smiley and curious and gentle with them in a way that made my heart so full. She would look at them and just light up.
The girls all wore matching knit outfits, and I cannot overstate how beautifully those photographed. The texture, the softness, the way they coordinated without being too matchy, it was exactly right for the warmth of this session.
This is what in-home newborn photography is made for. Real moments, in real spaces, with real love.

By the time we met for their second session, the girls had grown and settled into their little personalities. We headed outside on a gorgeous late summer day, all golden light and blue skies, and it was exactly as lovely as it sounds.
All three girls were playful and sweet. They explored and laughed and let us catch quiet moments between the movement. Sessions like this remind me why I love outdoor family photography so much. When the weather cooperates and the kids are happy, you end up with images that feel effortless and alive.
This family radiated ease. You could feel how comfortable they all were with each other, and that always translates beautifully in photographs.

We wrapped up their Baby’s First Year package with a studio first birthday session for the twins, and it was everything a first birthday session should be: joyful, a little chaotic, and full of moments I could not have planned if I tried.
We played. We got gorgeous individual portraits of each of the twins. We got the whole family together for some of my favorite images from the entire year. And then came cake time.
The twins were not entirely convinced about the cake smashing, which honestly is a very reasonable stance to take. One of them gave it a curious try and ended up with a little frosting on her face, which made for a really sweet photo. We did not force it, and honestly the laid-back cake moment fit this family perfectly. Not every first birthday ends in chaos, and sometimes the quiet, curious ones are the ones you remember most.

A single session is meaningful. But a Baby’s First Year package gives you something a single session simply cannot: the arc of an entire year. You get the tenderness of the newborn days, the liveliness of the in-between months, and the joy and celebration of a first birthday, all documented in a consistent, cohesive way by a photographer who already knows your family.
This family’s story is a beautiful example of what that can look like. Three sessions, three different settings, and one incredible year in the life of a family that was built with so much intention and love.
If you are looking for a Raleigh family photographer who will show up for your family the same way across every session, from the quiet newborn mornings to the joyful chaos of a first birthday party, this is exactly what the Baby’s First Year package is designed to do.
I only take on a limited number of Baby’s First Year packages in Raleigh each year, and I would love for one of them to be yours.
If you have a baby on the way, or a little one already here, reach out through the contact form and tell me about your family. I cannot wait to help document your story.
