Raleigh Baby Photography | Simple Baby Studio Session

Although I have only been offering simple baby sessions in my studio for less than a year, they are quickly becoming one of my favorite parts of my business! I felt the need to offer my clients an option for documenting their precious babies in between the newborn & 1 year period when they change SO quickly.

I have also found inspiration from some amazing photographers like Suzi of Little White Photography who perfectly capture the sweet, curious nature of babies and I wanted to try it out for myself. I dreamed of an all-white studio space for a while, and finally made it happen. I will actually be moving my studio this Fall when our family moves, and will be able to take what I learned the first go-round and hopefully create a space that is even better!

With a simple baby session, the entire concept is that the studio space is all-white, with hardly any “props”. This brings all of the attention to the sweet baby, like little Fenton here.

I like to let babies warm up in the beginning and adjust to the unique environment of my studio, and just observe what they do naturally. Fenton started out in just a diaper cover, which is a look that I absolutely love. I actually have several white diaper covers available for clients to use in the studio in case they don’t have one and want to do some diaper only photos. Fenton was a super happy guy, and loved just looking around and watching his parents (and me) do lots of silly things to bring out his grins.

His parents brought along his white teddy bear friend, and watching him interact with the bear was almost too cute for me to handle.

I always encourage parents to bring along a toy that is special to their child, especially if it’s one that they’d like included in their photos. This particular toy was just so perfect in how it blended with the all-white studio.

I also have some simple wooden toys that babies generally love, and often put right in their mouth (don’t worry, I wash them after each session!). I love how these natural wood tones worked with his coloring, and check out those beautiful blue eyes!

These sessions are generally best for babies around 6-8 months old, who are sitting up and not yet crawling, but I do offer them for older babies as well. Some photographers refer to this as a “sitter session”.

Whatever you call it, simple baby sessions are definitely something that I envision myself growing to love more and more. This age is just so adorable and fun to photograph!
