If you’re like me, your pets are important members of your family. So when I enter a client’s home for a newborn or family session and they have pets, I absolutely want to include them in photos! I worked in veterinary medicine for over thirteen years, so being around animals is something that brings me great joy.
Sometimes we have to coax pets to get involved, and sometimes (like Ruby the poodle below) they insert themselves whether invited or not!
I’ve gone through some newborn sessions that I’ve photographed where we included pets to give you an idea of ways to incorporate them in your photos. Enjoy & make sure to scroll all the way to the bottom to meet my own sweet pups, Ella & Miles!
This guy wins for biggest dog I’ve ever included in a newborn session – he was such a good boy and I love how his head is bigger than the baby!
It’s not as common for cats to want to be involved, but sometimes they get curious and want to see what all the fuss is about, which was the case in this adorable photo:
This handsome boy was such a sweetheart and he was totally trying to get into pretty much every photo. I’d say he succeeded!
I love this sweet shot, the pup just came to check out the baby and give her a little sniff and I am so glad that I was quick enough to grab this image!
And finally, my sweet girl Ella and my handsome boy Miles.
