A step-by-step guide to beautiful heirloom children’s portraits from Valerie Worth of Worth Capturing Photography. Studio conveniently located near downtown Raleigh, North Carolina.

Did you have an heirloom portrait done as a child? Or maybe you’ve seen the beautiful portraits I’ve shared on my social media or website? However you learned of this special offering, I’m glad you’re here! I’ve been creating stunning heirloom portraits in my Raleigh studio since 2019 and they have quickly become one of my most popular sessions. If you’re interested in having portraits done of your child, please read along to learn about my process and don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions!

Step #1
I’d say step one is pretty straightforward – it’s time to book an appointment! All you need to do is head to my heirloom portrait page to review all of my pricing and collection options, and then scroll down to the online booking calendar to select a date and time that works for you.
I generally offer studio sessions on Monday and Friday mornings, but if you can’t find a time that works for you please reach out. Booking online is super easy – once you select a slot you’ll fill out a form, pay your session fee, and voila!
Step #2
Next, it’s time to prepare for your child’s session which means choosing their outfit. A white Peter Pan collared shirt or dress is a timeless, classic choice if you want to keep it simple. I recommend lighter colors and no bold patterns to help keep your child’s face the focal point of their portrait. Brands like Feltman Brothers and The Beaufort Bonnet Company have great options!

Step #3
Step number three is something you may have done already before scheduling your child’s session. But, if you haven’t then now is the time to think about what you’d like to do with your child’s heirloom portrait. Do you envision framing your favorite image? If so, think about where you’d hang it, how big, and what type of frame you’d like. I think an 8″ x 10″ or 11″ x 14″ print makes a beautiful statement on the wall, or 5″ x 7″ is great for a tabletop frame.
Or maybe you are you interested in a composite of 3 or 5 images? Great! I offer these options and many more to turn your child’s portrait into a custom piece of artwork. Go ahead and take a look through my products and pricing to see how you can use the print credit included in your collection!

Step #4
Now this step is where I come in and things get real – it’s time for your child’s session! My #1 goal is to make you and your child feel welcome and relaxed in my home studio so we can get those gorgeous, authentically joyful images that truly capture your child’s personality. We’ll chat for a few minutes while you get your child ready (totally ok to dress them once you arrive!) and then the fun begins. I’ve got toys and tricks but please feel free to bring along a favorite toy, a snack, water, and anything else that will help them feel comfortable. If you have concerns about your child before our session, please feel free to email me and we can chat about how to set them up for a successful heirloom portrait appointment!

Step #5
The “your gallery is ready” message is my very favorite to send – and I know it’s exciting when you finally get to see your child’s portraits! Once you’ve looked through them (and maybe teared up a bit at how precious they are) it’s time to select a collection. After you’ve decided and purchased your package, you’ll automatically be able to download the number of included digital images and shop in the gallery store using your print credit! I am here to help with shop questions, recommendations, and to work with you to create custom composites, framed art, etc. I love helping clients with artwork so please don’t hesitate to ask questions.

Guess what? We did it! Now you have gorgeous heirloom portraits of your child that you can proudly display in your home, give as gifts, and pass down to future generations. I absolutely love working with clients to create the perfect portraits of their children, and would love to work with you. If you’re ready to book your session please do so via the button below and if you have any questions please reach out – I’m here to help!
