If you’re already a follower of mine then it’s probably no surprise that I love working with pets during family & newborn sessions. So, when Jenny reached out to me about hiring me for maternity and newborn photography including their two precious mini labradoodles in Apex, North Carolina, I was ecstatic! Not only are their dogs adorable, but they are also famous on Instagram (check them out @copper.and.lily).
I worked in veterinary medicine for 13 years before making photography my full-time gig. Now, being able to continue to work with animals in some capacity brings me so much joy! I am comfortable with all kinds of pets and this experience gives me a lot of confidence. When clients want to include their animals I am always game!
I am going to focus on their newborn session today, but I can’t help but include a photo from the maternity session as well. This was a gorgeous evening at Crabtree Lake Park and the pups were included (of course).
I knew that this couple would make wonderful parents. If they give their labradoodles that much attention you know they’ll be wonderful with their own baby! Copper & Lily are just the cutest and best big brother and sister. As soon as I arrived to their beautiful home in Apex, North Carolina I was SO excited to meet sweet baby Flynn! He is such an adorable baby boy and clearly so, so loved by all.
We headed right up to his precious nursery to start the newborn photography session. I loved the soft green & warm wood tones in the nursery, and the space photographed so beautifully! Don’t you just love that light fixture?
We really let the labradoodles mostly do their own thing, and I loved how they wanted to be included in almost all of the photos. They’re clearly very comfortable in front of the camera š
I loved Flynn’s cute little knit outfit, it looked so cozy and comfortable but still showed off those precious little baby toes. I always recommend that parents focus on simplicity and comfort for newborn photography, and this family totally nailed it!
We also did some photos in their beautiful bedroom, and as you can see the dogs made themselves quite comfortable in no time. Check out that sign above their bed š
A big priority for this session was to get some photos of just Flynn & the labradoodles. So, I brought out my Moses basket which turned out so adorable. I loved getting him all wrapped up (which made him quite happy and sleepy). Putting the basket on the floor was the perfect spot to let the dogs come check him out while I snapped away. My style of newborn photography really focuses on creating space for these beautiful moments to happen, and I loved every minute!
Since it was nice and warm outside we had the opportunity to take some photos on their beautiful porch, I was feeling some porch swing envy here for sure! I can’t imagine a more peaceful spot to cuddle a newborn.
Being able to photograph this lovely family and celebrating the additional of a perfect baby boy was definitely one of the high points of my year! I know that these images will be treasured for many years to come. I love that they will be able to look back at them and remember how baby Flynn was welcomed with so much love and attention from both his parents and his furry brother and sister.
