Sometimes I arrive at a home for a newborn session and immediately get a great vibe and feel confident that things are going to go well. That was ABSOLUTELY the case with this session. When Esme’s big brother came onto the front porch to welcome me with a big hug, I knew it was going to be great – and I was right.
Siblings that are excited to take photos and show off their new baby bring me such joy. Sure, that excitement may wear off after a little while and they decide it’s time to go play Legos – but hey, that’s totally okay!
After taking some family photos in the parent’s bedroom, we moved onto Esme’s nursery which was so sweet, girl, floral, and just gorgeous. It also happened to be a beautiful sunny day and the light in there was perfect! This photo below is one of my favorites from the session. The way the light from the window lit her so softly and the pastel color palette makes it so calm and serene. Even if sessions don’t always feel calm in the moment, I love how images can create that feeling afterward.
What can I say, I love a good nose boop photo too:
Next we made sure to get some photos of just dad & baby, and then both parents and baby since big brother was in need of a break. I loved using the mirror in her nursery to add more dimension, playing with reflections is always a fun challenge for me! Isn’t this family just so gorgeous?
I absolutely loved these crib photos, the shadows from the railings added some great texture to the first image and this second one is a favorite shot of mine for almost every newborn session. This family chose the perfect onesie for these lifestyle images – classic, neutral, and coordinates so well with her nursery! It’s always a good idea to consider your home’s décor, especially for nursery photos where there is a consistent color palette like this. If you’re ever in doubt for what to wear for a newborn session, white is always a great choice!
Many of my newborn sessions put a lot of emphasis on moms, and this was no exception. It was so clear that this beautiful mama was absolutely enamored with her little girl and I loved capturing that emotion. The way she snuggled her close and smiled at every little change in her facial expression was so beautiful.
I’m going to wrap up by leaving you with this perfect little newborn smile, I hope it puts a smile on your face like it does for me!
