Alright, you’ve booked a Spring family photo session – way to go! Spring is such a gorgeous time in our area and with the warmer weather it can make for some seriously beautiful family photos. Now, I know the next big question is “what in the world are we going to wear!?”. Whether you’re dressing for a family of three, or seven – my formula for selecting outfits is fairly easy and you can learn more about how I do it in my previous blog. However, today I’m taking out all of the guesswork and sharing some complete outfit ideas for Spring family photos with shopping links included (even shoes!).
One important thing to mention is that all of these schemes incorporate a good amount of lighter colors such as white, tan, etc. The colors that you wear will dictate the overall scheme of your final images, so having plenty of light neutrals means your final images will have that gorgeous bright and airy look.
For the first outfit idea for Spring family photos, I’ve started with my favorite color – light blue. This is such a classic southern color scheme and I don’t think it ever gets old! I’ve started per usual with a dress for mama, then added in some different neutral tones and textures to pull together a look that is beautifully coordinated but not too “matchy”. The ladies’ dress has a gorgeous floral pattern and beautiful puff sleeves, so it would definitely be the star of the show. You could pair a female partner in a white dress, or have a baby/little girl in white eyelet as I have shown in this example.
My next idea is full of pretty spring pastels and makes my inner little girl so happy! I don’t usually select pink for myself, but I think this dress might convince me. I also brought in some pink in the floral dress for a little girl & baby girl, but a pale pink Oxford shirt would be really sweet on a little boy as well. Another favorite item in this scheme is the boy’s sneakers – they just tied in all of the colors so perfectly and were something I know my boys would love for everyday wear!
If you’re more of a neutral lover, this scheme is perfect for you. The tones are more muted but the various textures and patterns still provide lots of visual interest. I am absolutely in love with the baby girl set with the gorgeous lace collar detail! The woman’s dress is a bit more casual but perfect for a warm, sunny day or you could easily add a sweater if the day was on the cool side. I also love the boy’s loafers, they’re such a nice classic natural that would be perfect for any dressier occasion.
I hope this guide has been helpful whether you choose to follow the selections exactly, or use it as inspiration to create your own look. If you’re in the Raleigh area and are interested in booking a session, please visit my Family Session Information page or reach out via email to inquire!
